1st quarter report - january to march 2023

THIS MONTH WE CELEBRATE 19 YEARS OF BUILDING CHANGING AND TRANSFORMING LIVES WITH BETA CHARITABLE TRUST

STRIVING AGAINST STARVATION 2023

828 million people worldwide are undernourished and exist on less than £1 per day.

We have just launched BCT's annual Food Parcel Campaign. Running from March to June, SAS 23 provides aid to the poorest and most deprived communities.

This year, our focus is predominantly Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria, as well as India, Pakistan, and countries across East Africa and the United Kingdom, where we are working with food banks and refugee support.

For just £10 you can provide a family of four with a food parcel for a week - that's just £1.43 for a substantial daily meal.

Distributions of food aid to the poor are already well under way. Images below show this fantastic work taking place.

TURKEY AND SYRIA EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

BCT are continuing to raise urgent funds for the catastrophic humanitarian disaster that has taken place due to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Our partners on the ground are working hard supporting survivors in the aftermath, mobilizing warm blankets, potable water, food and emergency medication to local hospitals.

EYE CAMPS

Cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors are the two leading causes of visual impairment around the world, and 90% of people suffering from visual impairment are living in developing countries.

In this first quarter of 2023, BCT have supported 26 eye camps, and over 809 surgeries have been carried out!

WATER WELLS

Beta Charitable Trusts commitment to making clean water accessible for all continues.

We are pleased to let you know that a huge 40 wells have already been commissioned for 2023.

Further wells are available in:

  • Kenya at $1,800

  • Tanzania at $2,500

  • Pakistan at £650 water tank well and £175 hand pump

MANAKARA GIRLS SCHOOL

BCT co sponsored a girls school in Manakara, Madagscar with our partners CAI, and February saw the grand opening!

This area has several remote villages where there are no schools. Poor children remain unschooled due to poverty, and unavailable education opportunities. Students have had to relocate to major cities for elementary/higher education and live in hostels.

This school will now be a game changer for girls education! Providing a dorm for 140 poor students, and living quarters for 140 orphans, with capacity for around 500 students at full strength, girls will for the first time receive an education they deserve.

JUNNAR SCHOOL

Due to the natural growth of the number of students, the successful Junnar school is desperately in need of extension.

The ground breaking took place in March for an extension that will house classrooms over 3 floors, adding another 7,500 square feet to the original building.

ANAMIL AL RAHMA SCHOOL

BCT, alongside our partners, built 3 new classrooms at the Anamil Al Rahma Secondary School for boys and girls in Diwaniyah, Iraq.

KEEP THE GIRLS IN SCHOOL

BCT continue to work with our partners CHEPS, on their Keep the Girls in School campaign.

Workshops in 11 schools in 3 villages in Chakama, Kenya have recently taken place. A huge 1,177 reusable sanitary kits were distributed to school girls and village ladies.

YEMEN AID

BCT continues to support Yemen and has pledged to continue to donate $12,000 every quarter for baby milk powder and essential food items.

Photos below show just some of these distributions taking place.

UK PROJECTS

Charity begins at home, and BCT are equally as passionate about assisting those in need in the UK as well as internationally.

HAND ON HEART

BCT continue to support our wonderful partners Hand on Heart. Due to the cost of living crisis, and the continued cold weather, the Winter Warmer Campaign continued into February.

A further 1,200 packs were assembled and distributed throughout February and March, taking the total packs for this winter campaign to 3,200!

Each pack was filled with the following essential winter items:

  • Hoodie

  • Thermals - Top and Bottom

  • Thermal Socks - 3 pairs

  • Winter Gloves

  • Woolly Hat

  • Deodorant

  • Wet Wipes

  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste

In addition, sleeping bags, blankets, bottled water and hot water bottles with covers were handed out out at outreach drives.

Distribution reached out as far as Birmingham, Leicester, Luton, Manchester, Slough and London.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS AND DONORS WITHOUT WHOM WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO REACH THE MOST VULNERABLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD

WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT IN 2023
