YEMEN CHOLERA VACCINATIONS

Beta Charitable Trusts Yemen Cholera Appeal has already helped vaccinate 50% of the estimated 14,000 children in the refugee camps in the Hajjah area, 123km from Yemen’s capital Sana’a.

So far, around 7,000 children, have been administered with medications and treatments. The work of saving Yemeni Children continues. The photos below show the amazing work taking place....

INDIA COVID VACCINATIONS

India has been devastated by a deadly new outbreak of Covid19. The poor and vulnerable are suffering the most, with the highest infection and death rates, as well as mass unemployment.

We have been working with our partners on the ground to deliver vital relief. One first camp administered the first dose of the covid vaccine and 1344 people were vaccinated in this first camp in Metiabruz. The photos below show the fantastic work being carried out.

Second dose camps are scheduled for October & November.

EYE CAMPS

Between July and September, BCT have supported another 20 Eye Camps.

Working alongside our partners on the ground and with the help of our generous supporters, we have been able to facilitate over 950 cataract surgeries. These life changing surgeries are vital in aiding the needy across rural areas of Kenya, Tanzania and India.

The photos below show the amazing work carried out by our partners CHEPS. On their first day of their eye camp in Garissa, Kenya they achieved an incredible 60 cataract surgeries, including 7 paediatric cases where hydrophobic foldable lens were used.

The photos below show the second day from their eye camp in Garissa, where a further 54 cataract surgeries took place, including another 2 paediatric cases.

The photos below show the fantastic work carried out by our partners Mobileyes, their number of cataract surgeries surpassed their original aim by 200!!

A huge thank you to our partners on the ground, without their hard work and dedication, these eye camps would not be possible, and a huge thank you to our donors and supporters. You are creating a vision, one cataract at a time.

Watch this space as we have more eye camps already scheduled for the last quarter of the year!

AFGHANISTAN URGENT APPEAL

Afghanistan 1.JPG

Afghanistan is suffering from a historically severe drought; with COVID still ravaging the population and now the threat of violence around the country, this has led to a humanitarian crisis.

With your help, our team on the ground have managed substantial food distributions throughout August, which have provided vital relief. As the situation in Afghanistan has developed, it has become difficult and dangerous to transfer funds into the country, as all local banks have closed their doors. We are now supporting the thousands of refugees that are arriving in the UK from Afghanistan with vital welcome packs, to restore hope and dignity to these people.

Please check our website over the next few weeks as we’ll be resuming support on the ground for this important project as soon as it is safe to do so.

WATER WELLS

We are thrilled to let you know that another 10 wells have been commissioned and built this quarter.

5 wells have been built in the Morogoro region in Tanzania, and 3 have been built in Peponi Village in Tana River county Kenya. All have benefitted villagers who previously had to travel long distances in order to obtain drinking water.

We are delighted as always to partner with Hand on Heart in providing support to the homeless of the UK.

The objective of the Spring Campaign was to supply homeless and other vulnerable groups with essential supplies as they cope in these difficult times.

1000 packs in Central London and surrounding areas were assembled and distributed, along with 500 waterproof jackets, which were gratefully received.

We were delighted to sponsor Hand on Hearts sponsored walk through London

The school back pack campaign exists to provide school back packs filled with school supplies to children from disadvantaged families. These families were identified during the pandemic.

Our partners HoH were able to distribute a huge 900 bags, 450 to primary schools and 450 to secondary schools, to children of low income families and Afghan Refugees.

All back packs as standard included:

TREE PLANTING IN KENYA

Tree Planting 1.JPG

The global rate of deforestation is alarmingly high. It is estimated that the world uses 25% more forest resource than can be sustained each year. Forests are quickly being cleared by human activities such as settlement, timber harvest and energy production.

Beta Charitable Trust are delighted to be working with our partners CHEPS, in preserving the environment and reversing the effects of deforestation by planting trees. We aim to plant 5,000 trees this year, in the Chakuma location in rural Kilifi County, Kenya. These trees will mainly be the Neem and Moringa trees which, in addition to environmental effects, also have health, medicinal and nutrition benefits. Trees will be planted in schools where students of Science clubs will care for them and learn from the project.

Number of Trees Cost per Seedling Total Cost

5,000 $2 $10,000
