KENYA DROUGHT
Water appeal
Over 2.4 million Kenyans are currently at risk of starvation due to the ongoing protracted drought, which has, since September 2021, been declared a national disaster.
“The forecast for the necessary rains in the coming months is not promising and therefore the fear is that the drought can only get worse. It now requires the international community to step up.”
Stephen O’Brien, Emergency Relief Co-ordinator, United Nations
Kenya’s drought is plunging millions into acute food insecurity. Crops are drying and livestock are perishing, and without serious intervention the country faces a catastrophic loss of life. Water rations are completely stretched, and with children now suffering with malnutrition, basics like hygiene and washing clothes have become luxuries.
Chakama is one of the rural villages suffering most. Remote locations are harder to serve, both in terms of irrigation and relief. With the help of our partners on the ground, a viable water source has been found. We now need your help raising the funds to install the equipment needed to turn this into a sustainable, potable and life-giving resource, and to find more opportunities to return water to the people in Chakama.
