1st quarter report - january to March 2024

We are delighted to share an update on just some of the projects we have been working on this quarter.

STRIVING AGAINST STARVATION 2024

828 million people worldwide are undernourished and exist on less than £1 per day.

We have just launched BCT’s annual Food Parcel Campaign. Running from March to June, SAS 24 provides aid to the poorest and most deprived communities.

This year, our focus is Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Chad, India, Iraq, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, West Africa, Yemen and the United Kingdom.

For just £10 you can provide a family of four with a food parcel for a week - that’s just £1.43 for a substantial daily meal.

Distributions of food aid to the poor are already well underway. Images below show this fantastic work taking place.

eye camps

Working alongside our partners on the ground, and with the help of our generous supporters, we have been able to facilitate 29 eye camps throughout January, February and March. This has resulted in over 723 cat5aract surgeries taking place.

These life changing surgeries are vital in aiding the needy across rural areas of Kenya and Tanzania.

Sponsor an eye surgery today for only $60!

water wells

Lack of access to safe and clean drinking water is the number one crisis worldwide, and BCT continues to commission water wells in locations that have dire need.

In Quarter 1, BCT have already commissioned 32 wells!

Further wells are available in:

  • Kenya at $1,800

  • Tanzania at $2,500

  • Pakistan at £675 water tank well (dug to between 150 - 190 metres), £1,110 water tank well (dug to between 350 -500 metres) and £175 hand pump

CERVICAL AND GYNECOLOGY CAMP

Cervical cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide and the fourth leading cause of death in women.

Alongside our partners Medewell, BCT sponsored a free screening camp on the 6th and 7th March in Kibaha, Tanzania. A huge 303 patients were screened and 14 women were identified for further treatment.

yemen crisis

BCT continues to support Yemen and pledges to continue donations of $12,000 each quarter for baby milk and food parcels.

In addtion to this, BCT sponsored high energy nutrition and medication for 60 malnourished babies in Hodeida, Yemen.

Images below show just a few of the distributions taking place and the before and after images for some of the infants.

kijana kwanza

A child and youth development charity, based in Tanzania supporting orphaned and abandoned street children. BCT are proud to be working with them on one of their major new projects. The Halima Children home is currently under construction in the Shabaha district, and will have the capacity to provide shelter for up to 120 children. With no mains water supply in the area, we are hugely proud to have already funded a deep bore well at a cost of £8,753.

We are now match funding £5,000 for their Mount Toubkal Climb!
