2nd Quarter report - april to june 2024

We are delighted to share an update on just some of the projects we have been working on this quarter.

20th Birthday!

Back in 2004, Beta Charitable Trust broke ground on our first school in Skardu, Pakistan.

20 years on, your support continues to help dig wells in drought zones, deliver sight-saving eye operations, feed people in the grips of starvation and build schools that have now kept two generations in education.

The world is an uncertain place, with consistently widening inequality and the effects of climate change becoming more acute by the day. Beta Charitable Trust delivers relief and builds infrastucture across the world that has a real impact.

Below statistics are just a fragment of what YOU have achieved -

701 WATER WELLS COMMISSIONED

45,000 EYE SURGERIES CARRIED OUT

105,858 FOOD PARCELS DISTRIBUTED

STRIVING AGAINST STARVATION 2024

828 million people worldwide are undernourished and exist on less than £1 per day

BCT's annual Food Parcel Campaign, SAS 24 took place from March to June, providing aid to the poorest and most deprived communities. This year, our focus was Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Chad, India, Iraq, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Nepal, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, West Africa, Yemen and the United Kingdom.

Images below show this incredible work taking place.

eye camps

Working alongside our partners on the ground and with the help of our generous supporters, we have been able to facilitate 25 eye camps throughout April, May and June. This has resulted in over 895 cataract surgeries taking place.

These life changing surgeries are vital in aiding the needy across rural areas of Kenya and Tanzania.

Sponsor an eye surgery today for only $60!

water wells

Lack of access to safe and clean drinking water is the number one crisis worldwide, and BCT continue to commission water wells in locations that have dire need.

Further wells are available in:

  • Kenya at $1,800

  • Tanzania at $2,500

  • Pakistan at £675 water tank well (dug to between 150 - 190 metres)

  • £1,110 water tank well (dug to between 350 - 500 metres) and £175 hand pump

yemen crisis

BCT continues to support Yemen and pledges to continue donations of $12,000 each quarter for baby milk and food parcels.

Photos below show just some of these distributions taking place.

kijana kwanza

BCT are proud to be working with our partners Kijana Kwanza, a child and youth development charity based in Tanzania. Supporting orphaned and abandoned street children, we are delighted to be working with them on one of their major new projects. The Halima Childrens home is currently under construction in the Shabaha district, and will have the capacity to provide shelter for up to 120 children. With no mains water supply in the area, we have already funded a deep bore water well at a cost of £8,753, and match funded £5,000 for their Mount Toubkal Climb!

uk projects

Charity begins at home, and BCT are equally as passionate about assisting those in need in the UK as well as internationally.

hand on heart

BCT are proud to continue our partnership with HoH. We have recently supported their Winter Homeless Essential Campaign, where 1,300 packs were distributed to vulnerable groups throughout February, and the Spring Campaign where another 1,500 essential packs were distributed throughout March and April, along with 600 shower jackets!

We believe it is just as important to provide essential items in the upcoming warmer months. We will be assembling and distributing 1,000 packs to vulnerable groups in a Summer Campaign.

Each drawstring bag will be filled with -

  • Polo Shirts

  • Baseball Caps

  • Underwear (3 pairs)

  • Lip Balm

  • Shower Gel

  • Deodorant

  • Wet Wipes

  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste

  • First Aid plasters

  • Bottled Water

We are very proud to have sponsored the purchase of a new van for HoH, helping with the logistics to meet demands at the serving locations.

sufra

Our relationship with Sufra is well established, and BCT is very proud to be match funding £10,000 for them in their ‘Seeking Sanctuary Finding Hope’ appeal providing:

  • Supporting approx 5,000 people with food aid
