Celebrating 17 years!

This month we celebrate 17 years of Building, Changing and Transforming lives with Beta Charitable Trust.

A summary of what we have been up to in the first few months of 2021.

As the Chaos of Covid-19 continues into 2021, our ground teams and partners all over the world have witnessed unprecedented hunger, homelessness and illness. They continue, with your support, to battle the hardships faced by the poor and ease their discomfort. Your support makes this work possible. Thank you.

Striving Against Starvation 2021 – Covid 19 Medical Aid & Food Parcel Programme

SAS21.jpg

According to the WHO, 821 million people are undernourished and live on less than £1 a day; that’s 1 in 9 of the world’s population.

We have just launched BCT’s annual Food Parcel Campaign. Running from April to June, SAS 21 aims to provide aid to the poorest and most deprived in the United Kingdom, as well as hard to reach areas of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, India, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Syria, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Yemen.

For just £7, you can provide a family of four with a nutritious food parcel for one whole week. That’s just £1 per day for a substantial daily meal for the whole family!

Distributions of emergency aid to the poorest areas of Yemen, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, India and the UK are well under way.  Follow us on social media for regular updates on the distribution works.

Please see photos from the most recent distributions.

EYE CAMPS

BCT continues to support eye care in impoverished areas of the world.

In this first quarter of  2021, BCT has supported  28 eye camps, and over 800 surgeries have been carried out in remote areas of countires such as Tanzania and Kenya.

We are extremely grateful to our partners on the ground for over coming difficult terrain and road networks to continue their hard work by restoring sight and giving hope for a brighter future.

YEMEN CRISIS

With the Global spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UN Refugee Agency has stated that "The Coronavirus may be the straw which breaks the camel's back in Yemen"

BCT has continued to support Yemen and has contributed £16,000 every month for baby milk, vaccines and food parcels.

Please see photos from the most recent Yemen distributions.

KEEP THE GIRLS IN SCHOOL CAMPAIGN

Sanitary Kits

cheps 21.JPG

According to UNESCO, 1 in every 10 girls in Africa will miss school every month because of their periods, and girls from poor families in Kenya miss 20% of the school year due to the lack of access to sanitary products.

BCT are continuing in supporting the production and distribution of reusable and environmentally friendly sanitary kits. This is also being supported with health talks for all school girls.

Following the set up of their own manufacturing unit in March 2020, our partners on the ground have produced over 2000 kits, with an additional 2000 kits planned for the upcoming 2 months.

As well as sanitary kits, the production of life saving face masks continues with over 30,000 masks produced and distributed so far, with plans to continue production.

WELLS

BCT has continued to commission a number of wells across destitute, arid areas of Tanzania and Kenya despite the current chaos caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. During 2020, BCT commissioned 17 wells which have been completed and are enabling villagers to get access to clean water.

So far in 2021, a further 3 wells have been completed and are in use and a further 6 commissioned and being built.

We are continuously grateful to our ground partners for their huge efforts in providing much needed water and sanitation facilities to those who, due to the pandemic, are finding it increasingly difficult to access clean water.

SUFRA

Our relationship with Sufra is well established, and we are proud to be supporting their most ambitious fund raising appeal yet. Their Love Thy Neighbour appeal aims to raise £60,000. BCT is very proud to be match funding for Sufra and we have donated £10,000 to launch this vital campaign for the homeless and poverty stricken families.

HAND IN HAND WITH HAND ON HEART

According to a government report released in October 2020, there were 288,470 authorised homeless cases eligible for assistance. However, this doesn’t include those who are sleeping rough and are open to the elements.

BCT are very proud of our partnership with HoH.

HoH have enjoyed an amazing start to 2021, and have received their charity registration.

February was incredibly successful with over 800 packs given out via 5 outreach drives. This was despite these troubling times and the extremely challenging conditions they encountered.

We are looking forward to continuing this exciting partnership throughout 2021.
