Christmas Gifts from BCT
As we celebrate the festivities, BCT is excited to share with you the gifts being distributed across Kenya in forms of Food Aid, Literacy Programmes, Housing and vital Eye Restoring Surgeries.
With heavy rainfall this season, scenes of extreme flooding has spread nationwide affecting many villages where the destitute already live in struggling conditions.
Our Partners on the ground have travelled far and wide distributing these vital supplies as an emergency response to the many unable to reach these basic amenities.
Food Aid
BCT’s annual Striving Against Starvation food parcel programme continues.
In response to the disastrous flooding, our partners on the ground have set up in a central location and distributed another 11.3 tonnes of food, as well as water purification tablets, to a total of 539 families from the worst affected villages.
Adult Literacy Programme
BCT continues to sponsor a programme which facilitates further learning and enhancing vital skills for men and women desperate to have any hope in escaping poverty. The photos below show the students from one of these programmes which took place on Christmas Day.
Cataract Surgeries
Eye camps have continued across the festive period, providing these sights restoring eye Cataract Surgeries to the needy across 7 villages in Kenya, including Kipini where the surgeries are currently ongoing.
Housing
Earlier this year our partners met an 82 year old widow who was living in a collapsing mud thatched hut. A new home was quickly built for her and this Christmas they were able to visit her again.
She was elated and full of energy and had even dyed her hair black!
Check out this video of her narrating how she felt when she was living in the old mud hut and how she is now benefiting from her new home;

There are plans in 2020 to continue providing housing to widows in similar living situations, as part of recovery efforts for those displaced by the ongoing floods.
BCT sponsored ECD school in Benzaro Village
Our partners also squeezed in a visit to the BCT sponsored ECD School in Benzaro.
A 20 km motorcycle ride across flood ridden areas was their only way to reach the school during this time due to the floods which had also caused a temporary stop in construction. However, with the rain slowing down, the construction will continue once weather conditions finally stabilise.
A huge thank you as always to our partners, supporters and donors, without whom these projects would not be possible!
