happy 18th Birthday bct!

1st Quarter Report Jan - March 2022

THIS MONTH WE CELEBRATE 18 YEARS OF BUILDING, CHANGING AND TRANSFORMING LIVES WITH BETA CHARITABLE TRUST.

Our teams on the ground continue, with your support, to battle the hardships faced by the poor and ease their discomfort. Your support makes this work possible. Thank you

STRIVING AGAINST STARVATION 2022

827 million people worldwide are undernourished and exist on less than £1 per day.

We have just launched BCT's annual Food Parcel Campaign. Running from April to June, SAS 22 provides aid to the poorest and most deprived.

This year, our focus is predominantly Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as India, Pakistan, Syria, countries across Central, East and West Africa, and the United Kingdom where we are working with food banks and refugee support, including refugees from the Ukraine and Afghanistan.

So far we have donated £176,048.82 worth of food aid!

For just £10 you can provide a family of four with a food parcel for a week - that's just £1.43 for a substantial daily meal for a family of four.

Distributions of emergency aid to the poor are already well under way. Images below shows this amazing work taking place.

EYE CAMPS

A cataract surgery can take minutes, but cataracts are still the cause of around 50% of the worlds blindness due to lack of optical aid.

BCT continues to support eye care in poverty stricken areas of the world.

In the first quarter of 2022, BCT has supported 30 eye camps, and over 1508 surgeries have been carried out!

YEMEN CRISIS

BCT continues to support Yemen and has pledged to continue to donate $12,000 every month for baby milk and food parcels.

Please see below photos which show recent Yemen distributions.

WATER WELLS

Lack of access to safe and clean drinking water is the number one crisis worldwide.

At BCT, we believe clean water should be a right for every human being.

We are delighted to let you know so far this quarter, another 13 wells and 2 water tanks have been commissioned and are being built.

We are continuously grateful for our ground partners for their huge efforts in providing much needed water facilities to those who need it most.

SAQQAE SAKINA WATER PROJECT

Chakama has a population of around 4,500 households, scattered over 46 remote villages. The communities face a severe lack of access to water.

We are raising funds for water tanks with concrete bases to be strategically placed in different villages across Chakama for water storage, alongside water collection systems for rain harvesting in schools and houses for the elderly. Our partners CHEPS, have been working in this region for many years, and have started work installing tanks and trucking water daily.

HOUSING PROJECT IN CHAKAMA

Shelter is one of the basic necessities for a human being.

Currently, the housing deficit in Kenya stands at 2 million and continues to grow by 200,000 annually. The worst affected are needy communities in rural areas who are living in dilapidated mud huts and exposed to the harsh weather.

The Charo family were living out in the open with no shelter over their heads, sleeping in turns on old rugs to ensure sleeping family members were protected from wild animals. Our partners on the ground CHEPS, heard of their desperate situation, and with your generous donations were able to construct and furnish a 3 bedroom house. The family is now safe, and living in dignity. The photos below show the families living conditions before their new home was built.

PAMOJA LEO

BCT have supported our great friends Pamoja Leo in providing quality food and associated support services to the children that attend their day care centre in Tanga, alongside this we also support the funding of their bus driver and cook.

We are hugely delighted to let you know that in addition, we have committed to supporting their Baby Project, which provides formula milk to babies with no lactating mother enabling the baby to stay in the family and not be placed into orphanage care.

The photos below show the wonderful work taking place

UK PROJECTS

Charity begins at home, and BCT are equally as passionate about assisiting those in need in the UK as well as internationally.

SUFRA

Our relationship with Sufra is well established, and BCT is very proud to be match funding £20,000 for them in their 'Stronger Together' campaign to provide up to 5,000 beneficiaries with food parcels/hot meal delivery services, and at least 600 beneficiaries of their Advice and Refugee/Asylum Seekers Service.

CHILDREN OF ADAM

We are delighted to be in partnership with Children of Adam, who support over 100 of Londons' most vulnerable every week, providing them with hot meals, clothes and toiletries. Your donations have enabled them to expand their drive, and provide each guest with 4 toilet rolls per month. This is an item which is rarely distributed at outdoor soup kitchens and has been well received by guests. Photos below show that the distributions took place despite the strong winds and torrential downpours of Storm Eunice.

HAND ON HEART

Every year, thousands of individuals and families in the UK will experience some form of homelessness.

We are extremely proud to support HoH throughout the year with their essential homeless support campaigns, most recently with their February Winter Warmer Campaign. A huge 1,100 winter warmer packs were distributed to vulnerable groups throughout February and March. We also continued to support evacuees from Afghanistan, along with refugees and asylum seekers by providing essential items such as clean clothing and hygiene supplies.

Look out for the Quarter 2 report, highlighting the fabulous Spring and Summer campaigns.

ST CLARE HOSPICE

BCT are delighted to be working with the St Clare Hospice Essex, and in this quarter, have provided funding towards their new Wellbeing Hub, which will help many hundreds of people with chronic illness every year, to cope and to live better with their conditions.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS AND DONORS WITHOUT WHOM WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO REACH THE MOST VULNERABLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
